What is a wind mitigation inspection?
A wind mitigation inspection is when a certified inspector checks your home’s wind-resistant features. These features can be anything from door/window coverings to the way your roof is attached to your home to how your roof is sealed to prevent water from entering. Required to be renewed every five years to continue receiving your windstorm credits.Great way to save money on your windstorm insurance.
How is a wind mitigation inspection done?
A wind mitigation inspection typically takes 30 minutes to a hour while the inspector checks the wind resistance features of the home. During this time the inspector will document and photograph the roof type, roof decking, roof to wall connection, roof permitting, roof geometry, shutters, windows, exterior doors, garage door, secondary water barrier, all sides of the home and any documents or permits you have about wind resistance improvements made to the home. After the inspection the inspector will search local records for the last roofing permit to verify age of roof and decking. It is important to know that the inspector does not make any decisions about your windstorm credits. They are only there to observe and document what is there at the time of inspection
